Pizza Hut Closed Down As A Result Of An Employee Caught Urinating In A Sink In The Food Prep Area

I found this report on Wowktv. A report of a shocking video of the Pizza Hut District Manager of Pizza Hut (Kermit, West Virginia Location)who was captured by the surveillance cameras on Tuesday 13, while urinating into a sink in the food prep area. The video shows a man walking over to the deep sink and urinating in it. The same sink used to wash kitchen utensils and supplies.

Mingo County Health Department was contacted regarding this video. On Tuesday morning, Brett Vance, the city's sanitarian, watched the video and went to the restaurant to temporarily close it. He said it will be temporarily closed until further notice.

Mingo County Health Department officials said it could be days and even weeks before they consider reopening the Pizza Hut.    Rage Inc. operates six Pizza Hut locations in West Virginia. The restaurants are located in Credo, Chapmanville, Danville, two in Logan and Kermit.

Now a sign hangs on Pizza Hut's front door saying the restaurant has been shut down because of "conditions within the establishment constituting a substantial hazard to the public health."  "It's something you hope to never have to deal with but we take it seriously," he said. "They're closed until we do a thorough cleaning on the place and have the reassurance there are safeguards in place."

The Pizza Hut Corporation has confirmed the man in the video is a Pizza Hut District Manager and they have responded to the video with the following written statement:

"First of all, we are embarrassed by the actions of this individual. Pizza Hut has zero tolerance for violations of our operating standards, and the local owner of the restaurant took immediate action and terminated the employee involved. While the isolated incident occurred during non-business hours and did not involve any food tampering, we follow strict safety and handling procedures and the restaurant has since been closed. We apologize to our customers of Kermit, West Virginia and those in our system who have been let down by this situation."

Disappointing statements from customers:

"Made me sick out of my stomach to think that I ever ate there and that happened," said Johnson. "But I will never go there and eat again."

Michelle Salmons of Kermit and her family wanted to eat at the restaurant. However, when they pulled up the doors were locked, 13 News showed her the video and she said, "That's disgusting. That is just horrible. Oh my goodness and we eat there all the time."

"If it was cleaned, washed, fixed up I wouldn't care a bit to eat there," said Charles Jude, who said he was a "regular" at the restaurant.

"I just don't trust anybody after it happened once, plain and simple," said Ricky Brewer who lives nearby the now temporarily closed restaurant.

"I would never go there and eat," said Blanche Ferris. "Even if i did, the thought would run through my mind."

The Pizza Hut restaurant is franchised by Rage Inc. out of Wichita, Kansas. 13 News reached out to Rage Inc. and the Pizza Hut Corporation about this video.

In an email to 13 News, a representative from Pizza Hut Incorporated said the Kermit location "did not have previous problems reported. Meaning, it was a store in good standing."  A cleaning crew is flying in from Texas to clean and sanitize the Kermit location as well as the other restaurants the District Manger was in charge of, including Pizza Huts in Ceredo, Danville, Chapmanville and Logan.

All of those locations are franchised by Rage Inc. 13 News reached out to Rage Inc. for the second day in a row. On Tuesday they did not return our call. On Wednesday they referred us to Pizza Hut Corporate. Officials with the Mingo County Health Department sat down with a representative from Pizza Hut Corporation Wednesday to discuss future plans of action.
