NDLEA arrests 442 suspected drug dealers in Anambra

Officials of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) operating in Anambra State arrested 442 suspects and confiscated 409 kilogrammes of various narcotic substances between January and November 2013, Sule Momodu, the state Commander of the agency, disclosed on Monday in Awka at a news conference on the activities of the command during the period under review.

He said 275.944 kilogrammes of Cannabis, 130 kilogrammes of Psychotropic substance, 4.3 kilogrammes of Methamphetamine and 55.6 grammes of cocaine were seized from the suspects.


According to him, the suspects were arrested in 13 different locations which included Ora village in Ifitedunu community, Mgbakwu village, Kwata market, Awka, Nkwelle-Ezunaka, Atani, Nkpor, Abatete and Ihiala.

Momodu said the agency filed 161 cases at the Federal High Court, Awka.
“We would have done better if not for the challenge of finance and logistics,” he said.

The commander, who said the command was still battling to curb the activities of major distributors of narcotic substances in the state, appealed to the state government to assist the agency with operational vehicles and other logistic support to enable the command enhance its operations.
