Obasanjo, Jonathan meet over breakfast in Kenya

President Goodluck Jonathan and Chief Olusegun Obasanjo
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo paid a surprise visit to President Goodluck Jonathan in his hotel in far away Nairobi, Kenya on Thursday.

Both leaders are guests of President Uhuru Kenyatta, who invited them and other African leaders, past and present, for the 50th independence anniversary of Kenya.

Prior to going for the event held at the Safaricom Stadium in Kasarani, Nairobi, on Thursday, Obasanjo surfaced at the Intercontinental Hotel, where President Jonathan was lodged.
Obasanjo was said to have taken Jonathan’s security personnel and close aides by surprise as he was not being expected.

Obasanjo and Jonathan were said to have had talks for about 30 minutes and ate breakfast together before Obasanjo left for the venue of the celebration.
Earlier in the week, a personal letter on the state of the nation written to President Jonathan by former President Obasanjo was leaked to the media and is still being celebrated.

In the 18-page letter, first published by Premium Times at www.premiumtimesng.com and titled: “Before it is too late,” Obasanjo accused the President of promoting corruption, destroying the Peoples Democratic Party for personal agenda, lying and destroying Nigeria.
He also reminded him of his promise to do only one term and asked him to keep to his promise, adding that Jonathan was already training snipers ahead of the 2015 elections.

In his brief response to the letter through his Media Adviser, Dr. Reuben Abati, Jonathan lampooned Obasanjo.
Jonathan described the letter by Obasanjo as self-serving, provocative and unbecoming of a former leader and elder statesman.
Jonathan, in the response signed by Abati, said he would reply to the letter comprehensively at the appropriate time.
