The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said on Wednesday that it had returned 8,500 dollars (about N1.4 million) misplaced by a passenger at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja.

The General Manager, Public Affairs of FAAN, Yakubu Dati, told journalists in Ikeja that the amount was in a luggage misplaced by the owner, Titilayo Onabokun.
He said that Mrs Onabokun, who resides in the U.S., had misplaced her luggage at the airport while flying to Georgia, on November 10.
“We contacted her on telephone and asked for a confirmation of her identity, as well as a confirmation of the fact that she misplaced her luggage,” he said. “She confirmed her identity, but wrongly claimed that she left only 7, 200.00 dollars (about N1.1 million), in a white envelope, while in fact the Aviation Security had discovered 8,500 dollars in her bag. On further questioning, she later confirmed the extra 1,300 dollars. Her luggage and money has been returned to her.”
He appealed to members of the public who may have left any luggage at any of the terminals, to come forward promptly with evidence of ownership.
