19 Redeemed Church Members Burnt In Accident On Their Way Back From A Church Programme In Lagos

Monday, March 17, 2014 will always be a day to remember for some Redeemed church members who lost their friends and families who were burnt beyond recognition on their way back from Lagos where they went for a church programme..

This sad incident happened along the Potiskum-Maiduguri highway in Borno State as three vehicles collided and caught fire, one of the vehicles conveyed the 19 Redeemed church members who were burnt beyond recognition while the other two vehicles were conveying people from a wedding.

Confirming the accident, the Federal Road Safety Commission spokesman in Yobe State, Mr Yusuf Sani, said the church members were said to be coming back from a church programme in Lagos when the accident happened;
"All the 19 members of Redeemed Christian Church of God who were traveling in one bus were burnt beyond recognition as the bus caught fire on collision with the other two vehicles which also burst in flames shortly afterwards,” said Yusuf Sani
Mr Yusuf blamed the accident on high speed and “reckless overtaking”as he narrates other similar incidents;

"On Sunday,  20 traders returning from a local market were killed when the open van they were in collided with an articulated truck. Sixteen of the 20 victims were girls who had been selling wares."

"Another 10 persons also died in another crash on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway."

"We recorded 55 deaths in two road crashes on Sunday and Monday due to speeding and reckless overtaking,” said Yusuf Sani
