A 20-year-old American woman looked no older than a 5 year.

The woman named Brooke Greenberg who passed away recently was born prematurely.
Although a woman of 20, Greenberg suffered from a rare medical syndrome, which made her look no more than a 5-year old, Daily News reported.

Fascinated by her rare medical condition, doctors referred her to Brooke's affliction as  Syndrome X.

Brooke's condition came to light when her younger sister grew past her.

After consulting doctor's, they were informed that Brooke had a very faint chance of survival, however they were shocked to see her make it to 20 years of age.
At no given point of time in life did she feel neglected as her parents, three sisters and extended family showered her with love and respected her dignity.
"Brooke was a little on the small side, but nothing abnormal," Brooke's father, Howard Greenberg, told NBC news.

Scientists studied Brooke's DNA in a bid to learn about ageing.

A ten-year-old boy has died after a teacher reportedly told him to jump from a building.

The Chinese youngster, named as Jun Jun, leapt 30 floors to his death after failing to write a self-criticism letter demanded by his teacher, it has been claimed.

The fifth-grade primary school student had been told to write a 1,000-character apology by his teacher, Miss Chen, for talking in class. 

His devastated parents have now launched a campaign against the extreme pressure put on Chinese students.

Neighbours say the 30-year-old teacher told him to jump out of a building after he didn't do the task.

'Teacher, I can't do it,' was found written in one of his textbooks, 'I flinched several times when I tried to jump from the building.'

The child smashed into a parked car beneath the flat where his family live in Jinjiang district. 

Due to China's strict one-child policy, it is likely Jun Jun was the couple's only child. 

His family have posted a banner outside the school in the southwestern city of Chengdu saying 'The teacher forced our kid to jump off the building'.

'The police investigation is still under way,' an official in Jinjiang district said and they refused to comment further.
The boy's school said today on its verified account on Sina Weibo, a Chinese equivalent of Twitter, that the child and some of his classmates had been ordered to write reviews of their behaviour after they disturbed a speaking competition.
 
He died 'by accident', it said. 

Jun Jun's parents are calling for the teacher that allegedly told him to jump from a building to be sacked.

Photographs of the boys study book pasted around the school by his parents showed that he had written several times that he had tried to jump from a building.

This is so disappointing. Disciplinary measures should be taken not just sacking him!

Teenage girl grows new face on her breast

The Chinese girl had disfigured her face in a burning accident 12 years ago

Thanks to pioneering technology and scientific advancement, a Chinese girl with a disfigured face grew a new face on her breast. 

Twelve years ago, as a five-year-old, the girl had horribly disfigured her face in a fire that broke out in her fishing village.

According to report in Daily Mail, now, after a wait of more than a decade, the youngster is able to smile after a successful facial reconstruction surgery in Fujian.

Doctors transplanted a blood vessel from Jianmei's leg into her chest and then inserted a water-filled balloon to stretch the skin of her chest. This skin provided the graft for her new face.

The surgery was conducted free of charge as Jianmei’s parents were unable to afford the cost.
 

“With her new face she will be able to express herself in a more precise way. She will even be able to blush when her emotions change, but it will take a long time,” surgeon Jiang Chenhong told The Daily Mail.

“First we took a piece of blood vessel fascia from her thigh and implanted it in her chest. Then we inserted a skin expander beneath the part of the skin where the blood vessel fascia was planted, so that the part could expand and produce enough skin for her new face,” he added.

Six-year-old boy dies in Lagos building fire

A six-year-old boy identified as Abiodun, lost his life after fire razed 11 rooms in a compound located on Ogundele Street in the Ifako, Gbagada area of Lagos State.

The incident was said to have occurred around 9.30pm on Tuesday.

Although the actual cause of fire could not be ascertained as of press time, residents told our correspondent that they believed that the fire was caused by a lighted candle.

 

Burnt books, beds, doors, televisions and other items littered the area as residents toured the building.

A resident in the compound, whose room was not affected because it was detached from the main building, said the fire started during the premiership football match between Arsenal and Chelsea.

The occupant, Michael Olujimi, said most of them were at a viewing centre when the fire started.

He said, “Most of us were at a viewing centre in the next compound, watching the match when we saw smoke billowing from our compound. We all rushed back but the fire was already intense.

“The youths in the area got buckets of water and tried to douse the flames but it continued to rage. At that point, we did not know that  Abiodun was inside one of the rooms because most of us were outside.”

A resident, who did not identify himself, told PUNCH Metro that the little boy’s parents had gone to church while his elder brother did not inform them on time that the deceased was inside the room.

A landlord in the area, Sunday Ogundele stressed the  the need for government disaster management agencies to improve on its response time.

He said, “A fire truck from Lagos State Fire Service arrived but they left because there was no water. When the fire was about spreading to another compound, one of my tenants, who works at the Federal Medical Centre, Oyingbo, called the Federal Fire Service which is close to the hospital but they did not come.

“He then had to drive down to Oyingbo to lead them here. They finally came around 11pm and doused the flames but by then, the deed had been done.”

Abiodun was reportedly  buried at Atan Cemetery, Yaba.

Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Razaq Fadipe,  however, denied the allegations.

He said, “Two fire trucks from Ilupeju and Ikeja with 10,000 litres each responded. They were busy fighting the fire on their own. A journalist and a fireman that live in the area, were the ones that first called our attention to it and we have evidence to show that we responded on time.”

Akhigbe’s body to arrive in Nigeria on Saturday

The body of a former Chief of General Staff, Vice-Admiral Mike Akhigbe, who died a week ago, is expected to arrive in Nigeria on Saturday, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

Nigeria’s Consul-General in New York, Ambassador Habib Habu, told NAN on Thursday that the body would depart New York on Friday night.
“Earlier on Friday, a church service in honour of the former Naval chief held at the Holy Family Church located at 315E, 47^th Street in New York,’’ he said.

NAN recalls that Akhigbe died on October 28 at the age of 67 in New York.

Fifteen-year-old Sani Musa on Thursday shocked onlookers during a parade by policemen attached to the Inspector General of Police Special Task Force on Anti-Pipeline Vandalism, when he confessed that he had travelled to Lagos from Jos for the sole purpose of engaging in pipeline vandalism.

Musa was arrested alongside three others -Chibuzor Okorie, Musa Adamu and Aminu Suleiman- with a truck as well as 200 kegs of 50 litres of diesel, which was allegedly siphoned from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation pipeline in the Sagamu area of Ogun State.

The teenage suspect told PUNCH Metro that it was his quest for a better life that got him into the business of pipeline vandalism.

He said due to the poverty in his family as well as the unrest in Jos, his father advised him to travel to Lagos where he would easily make money.

Sani said, “My family could barely feed and there was no money for my education. My father advised me when I was 14 that I was old enough to travel down to Lagos and make money for the family.

“He called one of my relatives, Alhaji Sherrif, who is a businessman in Lagos that he wanted him to show me the way and Alhaji told me about the business (pipeline vandalism).

“As soon as I arrived, Alhaji Sheriff said I should join him as a conductor in his business. He buys and sells diesel and other products to drivers and most of them are got from our suppliers at Sagamu.

“He told me the implication of the business and the danger in case of arrest. He was the one that advised me to say that I am a student and had just arrived Lagos few weeks ago in case the police accosted me. My duty is just to serve as a conductor attached to one of his drivers.

“I never joined them when they went into the bush; all I did, was to stand by the roadside, watch out for security personnel and alert them. Our duty is strictly to carry the product and deliver it to Mile 12, where we have tanks. He pays me N2,000 per trip which is a lot of money.

“I am terribly sorry; it’s just that I promised to change the fortunes of my family. I am sorry, please forgive me and give me another chance to return back to school. I am still in primary four.”

Another suspect, Okorie, who claimed to be 44, told PUNCH Metro that he had contacts that monitored NNPC and alerted him whenever fuel was being pumped into the pipelines.

He said he usually sold adulterated diesel to suppliers at the cost of N4, 500 for 50 litres.

“At the end of the day it will be sold at N6,000 to retailers who are always on a standby because of the price at which it is sold. On a part time basis, we also work with a group of vandals who assists us in collecting fuel from pipelines,” he said.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Friday Ibadin, who is in charge of the task force, said the suspects were arrested on October 17, 2013 around Sagamu through the cooperation of the community.

Okonjo-Iweala Denies Issuing Coscharis Import Waiver For Oduah’s N255m Armored Cars

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on Thursday distanced herself and her office from the raging controversy concerning the two armoured BMW cars recently imported into the country for the Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah.

While the Chairman of Coscharis Motors Limited, Cosmas Maduka, told the House of Representatives committee on Aviation probing the N255 million purchase that the Federal Ministry of Finance granted his company waiver for the importation, Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala dismissed such claims as “totally false and without foundation.”
The minister first issued through her twitter handle, saying the customs waiver she approved had no link to either the aviation ministry or bullet proof cars, but for the importation of 300 cars ordered by the Lagos State government for the National Sports Festival (“EKO 2012”).

She then followed up with a formal statement for clarification.
“On June 23, 2012, the Lagos State Government applied for Waiver of Destination Inspection Charges and Duty Exemptions for Coscharis Motors Nigeria Ltd, the official Automobile Partner for the National Sports Festival (“EKO 2012”), to purchase 300 vehicles on its behalf for the event,” the Special Adviser to the Minister on Media, Paul Nwabuikwu, said in a statement.

“Since the Lagos State Government met the laid down criteria, the waiver was granted. It is also important to clarify that the waiver granted to the Lagos State Government for the event did not include the purchase of armoured vehicles.”

At the public hearing by the House of Representatives on Wednesday, the Deputy Comptroller General of Customs, Manasa Jatau, had also accused Coscharis Motors of lying, by deceiving both the Ministry of Finance and National Security Adviser, NSA, into believing that the two armoured cars were among the ones acquired for Lagos state government for the National Sports festival.

Mr. Jatau, who alleged that the N10.1 million import duty due to Customs for the two cars were not paid, said Coscharis had used the same waiver for the Lagos State cars on the controversial BMW’s associated with NCAA.

“Coscharis imported the cars without paying import duties claiming there was a waiver from the Ministry of Finance. Coscharis obtained the waiver claiming the armoured cars were part of 300 vehicles imported for the Sports festival in Lagos last year, and therefore the beneficiary was Lagos State government. The cars had an End User Certificate from the NSA office in the name of Coscharis,” Mr. Jatau told the committee.

The NSA office had apparently issued End User certificate without knowing that it was doing so for cars to be delivered to Stella Oduah or the NCAA.
Reliable sources close to the office of the NSA, however, told PREMIUM TIMES last week that no such authorization certificate was ever issued to either the Minister of Aviation, Ms Oduah or the NCAA, to procure the controversial vehicles.

NDLEA saves 42-year-old drug pusher from possible death

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has averted the death of a forty-two-year-old trader, Umeozor Joel Tochukwu, who was found with 1.305kg of cocaine at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos while attempting to board a Qatar flight to China where drug offenders are liable to capital punishment.

Umeozor, during interrogation, said that he was oblivious of the death penalty for drug culprits in China.

In his words, “I am a trader. I sell jewelries and reside at Oyingbo area of Lagos. My wife just gave birth to our third child. I have not settled the medical bill when I received a quit notice from my landlord. My greatest worry is that my business is at zero level because I have no savings. This was the reason I could not resist the five thousand dollars I was promised to take the drug to China. I did not even know that drug trafficking attracts capital punishment in China.”

Umeozor, who hails from Anambra State, also said that he could not further his educational career beyond Primary school due to financial constraints.
NDLEA Airport Commander, Hamza Umar, said that the suspect tested positive for drug ingestion during search operation.

“The suspect was intercepted during the outward screening of Qatar passengers to China. Umeozor Joel Tochukwu was positive for narcotic ingestion. During observation, he excreted 71 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.305kg,” Hamza stated.
Concerned about the development, Chairman/Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade called on stakeholders to collaborate with the Agency in the anti-narcotics campaign.

According to Giade, “The Agency will continue to protect lives through intensive control measures at all entry and exit points in the country. We equally need the support of all because we cannot win this battle alone.
“It is disturbing that while we are making frantic efforts to prevent the execution of Nigerians on death roll in Chinese prisons, others like Umeozor Joel Tochukwu are trying to increase the number. Let us join hands in fighting the scourge of drugs in our society.”

The suspect will soon be charged to court.

Nigerian faces sexual assault charges in Canada

Elijah George, a Nigerian studying engineering at Memorial University in Canada, has been charged with sexually assaulting a nurse and assaulting another nurse while he was a patient at the psychiatric ward of the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s in May this year.

The 21-year-old was also charged with voyeurism for reportedly peeking under bathroom stalls of the women’s washroom which was outside the psychiatric unit.
However, his trial at a provincial court in Canada was stalled when the judge halted proceedings on Thursday over the accused’s mental capabilities. George had been laughing throughout proceedings in the morning.

The Nigerian will undergo a two-week psychiatric assessment. He is due back in court on November 8.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have apparently filed a lawsuit over their engagement video. According to TMZ, the couple is suing YouTube co-founder, Chad Hurley, for sharing a 2-and-a-half minute clip taken from their private event which took place at San Francisco's AT&T Park on October 21.

In the lawsuit, Kim and Kanye claim that Chad leaked the video to his new video-sharing site MixBit. In addition, Chad reportedly was not invited to the occasion, but somehow he found a way in.

The couple says that Chad broke confidentiality agreement by sharing the video to his 500,000 Twitter followers. "Hurley proceeded to try to turn the event into one starring himself, broadcasting the images he knew were the exclusive property rights of someone else," the pair allege.

Footage from the celebration apparently was meant to be broadcast on "Keeping Up With the Kardashians". The couple is now suing Chad and his company Avos Systems Inc. for unspecified damage.

Previously, Kanye invited some friends and family members only a few days prior to the surprise proposal. Kim later admitted that she did not know her baby daddy would propose to her on her birthday.

"My eyes were closed and then I got up and I still the whole time I didn't think it was a proposal. I thought it was dinner on the baseball field and we had a nice orchestra. I still didn't get it... When he got on his knee, I kind of figured out what was going on," she told E! News. Guests raced to the field as the couple hugged and they took photos from the event afterwards.

A teacher was in a 'sordid' lesbian relationship with one of her pupils for five years, which started when she kissed the girl in a stationery cupboard when she was only 14.

Rachel Speed, 41, would pick the girl up in her car from a bus stop outside school and drive her to her house, where they would have regular 'sleepovers'.

The couple showered together and would perform 'sex acts', while the victim was forced to wear a corset and PVC hotpants, a court heard.

Speed, who had taught science at Fairview High School in Cwmbran, south Wales, for 15 years, carried on the relationship until the girl went to university.

She was then dumped by text after her victim met somebody new.
After they split up, she reported Speed to the police, who charged her with indecent assault and sexual activity while in a position of trust.

She was found guilty by a jury at Cardiff Crown Court yesterday, and was told by the judge to expect a prison sentence.

The girl's parents had found out about the relationship while it was happening, and made Speed promise to end it until their daughter was 21 years old.

Despite promising to do so, Speed continued to see the girl for as long as possible, and gave her expensive gifts including a car and an engagement ring.

Prosecutor Christopher Rees told her: 'You abused her trust while she was 14.

'You did not want her parents to know because then they would know your sordid little secret.

 

'You were clearly obsessed with her - even when she went to university.'

Speed agreed she would end the relationship until she was 21 or after she finished full time education - but she broke her promise.

The girl’s mother said: 'I felt sick and angry. My daughter was a child. How could she have her sleep over at her house?'

The court heard how the relationship was uncovered when the girl's mother found an 'inappropriate' letter from Speed.

When they found out about the sleepovers, they went to Speed's house to collect items belonging to the victim. The court heard Speed, of Hengoed in the Rhymney Valley, South Wales told them: 'You're not going to like it but I love your daughter.'

After the couple broke up, the victim reported Speed, who was accused of indecent assault and sexual activity while in a position of trust.

Speed denied the charges but was found guilty and warned she will be jailed next month.

Speed is still employed at Fairwater High School in Cwmbran, near Newport, until the council chiefs can conclude a process to terminate her contract.

A spokesman for Torfaen Council said: 'We apologise for the failure to protect this pupil during her time at the school.'

A devoted husband is believed to have killed himself just a few hours after his beloved wife died from a debilitating lung condition.

Adrian Cross had never spent a night apart from his wife Tammy since they married 15 years ago, and nursed her through her illness for nine months.

She died aged 37 at home in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales on October 8, weighing no more than six stone - and hours later, Mr Cross, 45, was found dead of a suspected overdose.

Mr Cross worked for Merthyr Tydfil council, and like his wife was an enthusiastic supporter of Liverpool FC.

Well-wishers left tributes on to the pair on Facebook - niece Sophie Jones wrote: 'Love and miss my auntie and uncle loads. Really don't know how I'm going to get over the fact I won't see you.'

An inquest into Mr Cross's death has been opened, but was adjourned by pending the results of toxicology reports.

“Kerry and Nnamdi are ecstatic,” the source says. The baby is due in late spring.
The pal adds that the private star likely wouldn’t have discussed her big news, but with a stint on Saturday Night Live this weekend, “she didn’t want the focus to be on whether or not she has a bump.”

Despite the news, “Kerry will still absolutely be keeping her private life private,” the source says.



A rep for Washington, who was recently named PEOPLE’s best-dressed woman of 2013, would only say, “We do not comment on her personal life.”

 

Washington, who is known for keeping mum about her personal life, shocked many when she secretly wed San Francisco 49s cornerback Asomugha in Hailey, Idaho, five months ago. The couple had quietly dated outside of the spotlight.

“If I told you, I’d have to kill you,” Washington later joked to reporters when pressed for details on the wedding.

But the actress, who had previously been engaged to actor David Moscow, may have inadvertently given up a few clues about her pregnancy when she showed up on the set of Scandal in early October wearing her husband’s oversize sweatshirt.

Washington, who plays political fixer Olivia Pope on the hit ABC drama, had spoken previously about her need to nurture her relationships out of the spotlight, telling Glamour magazine, “I learned through experience that it doesn’t work for me to talk about my personal life.”

Governor Chime Of Enugu's Future To Be Known On November 8

The Court of Appeal, Abuja, has adjourned to November 8 the hearing on a suit seeking to relieve Governor of Enugu State Sullivan Chime of his duties.

The appeal was filed by a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Chief Alexander Chukwuemeka Obiechina. In it, Obiechina challenges the refusal of a Federal High Court in Abuja to annul the nomination process that saw the Chime gain upper hand in late April, 2011.

Obiechina urged the court to determine if the 2011 elections process was valid.
Yesterday, he insisted that Chime was "handpicked through a kangaroo process," and complained that the High Court mistakingly held he did not participate in the primaries, despite all the parties agreeing that he was a candidate.

The High court, presided by Justice Adamu Bello, had on May 21, 2012, declined to sack Chime from office, saying it lacked the jurisdiction to nullify his candidacy in the last general elections, and noted that Obiechina was not a participant.

Obiechina's lawyer, Mr Oba Maduabuchi, urged the Appeal court to nullify the said "illegal" primary election, and order the governor to vacate the office.
Aside  Chime, the other respondents in the suit are the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP).

The future fate of Mr. Chime as Enugu state's Governor will be determined by the Court's decision.
