French Foreign Minister Slams ‘Mass Rape’ Of Chibok Schoolgirls

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius Tuesday denounced what he called the “mass rape” of Nigerian schoolgirls kidnapped by the Islamic militant Boko Haram group. He said;

“Sometimes in France we talk about ‘forced marriage,’” the French diplomat told a press conference during a visit to Washington.

“But that term is totally inadequate. It’s really a mass rape of young girls,”  

"These girls have been the kidnapped and then enslaved, and it’s a mass rape that must be prosecuted and punished as such.” He added

France is hosting a summit on Saturday focusing on the threat posed by Boko Haram and has invited leaders from at least five African countries, including Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon, Niger and Benin.

British and American delegations have also been asked to take part, but Washington has not yet decided who will lead the US team. 

FG Ready To Negotiate With Boko Haram

Following the demand of the Boko-Haram Islamic sect to swap the abducted girls with members of their terror group who have been held in custody for over 4 years, the Federal Government has expressed readiness to do same.

The Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Turaki, confirmed this during an interview with the BBC on May 13, 2014, Tuesday. He said that if Boko Haram was sincere, its leader, Abubakar Shekau, should send in representatives for talks with the government.

Turaki, who is the head of a panel set up by President Goodluck Jonathan in 2013 to explore ways of negotiating with Boko Haram noted that “dialogue is a key option” in bringing the crisis to an end and that “an issue of this nature can be resolved outside of violence”.

It would be noted that the Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, has previously rejected any possibilities for dialogue with terrorists, mentioning that Boko Haram shall not dictate conditions; “The issue in question is not about Boko Haram… giving conditions,”

Mike Omeri, director general of the National Orientation Agency on Monday also said all options remained open for the government in the effort to rescue the girls.

Grandmother Escapes Mob Attack Over Day-Old Baby

 

According to Leadership;

A woman escaped death by the whiskers in Ajegunle area of Lagos State, yesterday, when she was attacked by mob who suspected that she was carrying a stolen day-old baby.

LEADERSHIP investigation revealed that the woman who sells foodstuff at Cemetery Market, Ajegunle, was carrying the he grandchild, earlier delivered by her daughter at a private hospital in Aiyetoro, Ajegunle (name withheld), yesterday and was going to her residence at Abukuru Street, Ajegunle when some people who thought she may not have delivered the baby because of her age, became suspicious.

 

All efforts made by the grandmother to convince them that her daughter who is a footballer delivered the child same day proved abortive as they attacked her, tearing her clothes. The grandmother managed to hold on to the baby as they meted out inhuman treatment on her and the baby began to bleed from the cord because of the attack.

She cried that they should not kill her and the child and pleaded that they should investigate before attacking her. She even showed them some new clothes belonging to the baby which were in her possession but they would not listen.

The divisional police officer of Ajegunle police station, CSP Abayomi Agbana was however alerted and he drafted a team of policemen to the scene and they rescued the grandmother and the new born baby to the station.

The medical director of the hospital (name withheld) where the baby was delivered, was also invited to the station by the police.

The doctor disclosed that the victim is the grandmother of the baby, adding that he asked the grandmother to carry the baby to her residence because her daughter who delivered the baby is suffering from anaemia.

The doctor said the woman was delivered of the baby at about 8:45am  and the mother could not breastfeed the baby because of her poor health condition, adding that any attempt to breastfeed the baby would lead to her death because she lost a lot of blood and her colour was fading.

Children Vow To Boycott May 27 Celebration If Chibok Schoolgirls Are Not Returned

As a result of the over 200 abducted Chibok girls,  the Nigerian children parliament has vowed not to participate in the May 27 Children’s Day Celebration if the abducted girls are not released before the day.

Disclosed by the national speaker, Children’s Parliament, Master Idara Thompson, on Monday May, 12, 2014 at the end of the 2014 national and state Children’s Parliament Retreat in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. He said:

“We are disappointed that in a democratically governed country like Nigeria, children who were doing public examinations could easily be kidnapped and turned into sex slaves following what we have heard."

“We will not celebrate this year’s Children’s Day if the kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls are not freed. This is the time government must rise up and tell the world that they are capable of protecting children.”

It hurts that those girls are still not found. Sex slaves, sex toys, whatever you call it, i just pray those girls be returned as girls and not mothers, as non-infected and in one piece!. Phew!!

Unqualified Nurse Arraigned After Her Private Patient Dies

 

Yesterday, May 12, 2014, it was heard before the Magistrate's court in Ebute-Metta, Lagos that a 44-year-old woman who claims to be a certified auxiliary nurse and works in a medical centre, Caroline Okoye had allegedly killed one Ephraim Omeugo while administering false medical treatment on him at her residence at the Ijaiye area of Lagos State.

The dead victim, Omeugo who was ill and wanted to visit the state's General Hospital because of the severity of his illness was discouraged by a relative of his who advised him to visit his own medical centre.  Following his relative's advise, he got to the medical centre where he met Mrs Okoye who worked as a nurse.

She reportedly asked the 42-year-old Omeugo to meet her at her home, where she treated him and administered the drugs. After taking the drugs, it was learnt that Omeugo asked for a bottle of soft drink, after which he fainted. He was immediately taken to the medical centre where he died, although the cause of death is yet to be revealed.

Okoye was arrested on one count of reckless and negligent acts. The charge reads;

“That you, Caroline Okoye, on April 16, 2014 at about 8am at 144, Powerline Road, Ijaiye Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, without being a qualified medical doctor or nurse, did recklessly and negligently give medical treatment to one Ephraim Omeugo, aged 42 years.” 

Having pleaded not guilty to the charge, Mrs. Okoye's counsel, E.O.Udoagwa applied for her bail in liberal terms and same was granted by the Chief Magistrate, Mrs. E.B. Daodu in the sum of N100,000 with one surety;
“The surety must be gainfully employed in a reputable organisation, with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State for three years. The address of the surety must be verified. The defendant is hereby ordered to be remanded pending the time the bail conditions will be met,” she added.

The police prosecutor, Richard Odige, said the offence was punishable under section 249 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.

The case has been adjourned till June 30, 2014.

Conversion Of Abducted School Girls To Islam, War Against Nigerian Christians – CAN

The National President of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, has described the conversion of christian girls  as a declaration of  war against Christians in Nigeria.

Oritsejafor condemned the act as shown in the video released by the sect of the kidnapped schoolgirls of Government Secondary School, Chibok, in Born State by members of Boko Haram.

Speaking on behalf of Oritsejafor, Elder Sunday Oibe CAN’s national director of research, at a press conference in Kaduna, said the forceful conversion of the girls is tantamount to persecution of Christians in Nigeria.

Reacting to the latest video message by Boko Haram showing the Chibok schoolgirls reciting the Holy Qur’an  on Monday, he noted that those girls can not be exchanged for the release of any detained Boko Haram members, as demanded by the sect.

“First, these children are Christians and not Muslims and so they cannot be converted to a religion that is not theirs at gunpoint without conviction. Besides, is that how conversion is being carried out? All the children displayed are Christians and that is the motive behind the abduction,” 

“Secondly, it smacks of some form of religious persecution. If not, why are their captors converting them to another religion? And if they say they will use them as a condition to negotiate for their men in detention, our daughters are not criminals and cannot be used in any way to free their criminal fighters.

“Show us where in Nigeria you have seen Christians fighting and throwing bombs in the name of God. We challenge any one to show us where Christians have abducted Muslim children in the name of Christianity. We challenge anyone to prove in Nigeria where Christians have taken arms in the name of protecting Christianity or even carry out acts of genocide on helpless and defenceless Nigerians. As far we are concern, it is a war against Christians and Christianity.”

Police Arrest Suspected Boko Haram Spy In Jos

POLICE sources said on Monday that men of the Plateau State police command arrested a suspected  spy for the terrorist Islamic sect,  Boko Haram, while spying on policemen on parade at the Mobile Police Barracks, Sector 8, in Jos, Plateau State.

The arrest of the unnamed middle-aged suspect followed recent complaints by members of the public over the existence of some strangers said to be parading in parts of Jos and Bukuru metropolis.

Our correspondent learnt that the suspect was arrested on Monday while spying on some policemen at parade rehearsals in preparation for the pulling-out ceremony of the state police commissioner, Mr. Chris Olakpe.

Police sources said the presence of the suspect near the parade ground raised the suspicion of those on parade and when the policemen attempted to interrogate the young man, he took to his heels.

The Boko Haram suspect was said to have caused a scare when he ran towards the nursery and primary school building located within the barracks, but he was apprehended by some policemen.

He was also said to have made another attempt to escape when he was being quizzed. He was said to have been transferred to the Anguljos police station for questioning.

The arrested man reportedly told his interrogators that he was a Kanuri by tribe and had come from Gonori in the Gujba Local Government area of Yobe State.

Gonori is said to be a strong base of Boko Haram.

Spokesperson for the police in Plateau State, Felicia Anselm, confirmed the arrest, adding that investigation had commenced to determine the identity and mission of the suspect.

“Yes somebody was arrested, but we are yet to ascertain who he is and his mission. Investigations are still going on,” Anselm told our correspondent in Jos on Monday.

Residents Scamble For Beer As Nigerian Breweries Truck Crashes On Highway In Ogun

At about 8pm on Sunday, a truck conveying Goldberg Lager Beer fell across the road along the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway and attracted a lot people who stole bottles of the Goldberg Lager beer, taking advantage of the brake failure of the truck.

The truck which was said to be fully loaded with the product produced by Nigerian Breweries Plc, fell on the median of the express at the old Toll Gate end of the road after its brakes failed. That which caused a heavy traffic for motorists going from Ogun State to Lagos State through the route.

According to a witness, officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps were handicapped and could not control the crowd.

“The truck was coming from Sango area in Ogun State and all of a sudden, the driver just swerved off the road and the vehicle fell pouring out all its contents,” one Adewole James said.
 
He further added that nobody was killed in the accident in addition to the bottles of beer that were destroyed.

At the scene of the incident, the crowd, including men and women, scavenged for bottles of beer, picking as many as their hands could accommodate. Some were seen rushing to buy bags to carry bottles of beer while others took crates of beer.

Some just drank the beer as they picked them from the truck, whose registration number had been removed by the officials of FRSC.

A middle-aged man who said he was fortunate to take two crates of Goldberg Lager Beer told P.M. NEWS correspondent that it was an opportunity that comes along.

“This opportunity may not happen again. I was able to carry two crates of beer from the truck,” he said.

An official of the FRSC told P.M. NEWS that they had contacted the Nigerian Police for assistance.

Amazing Creativity; World's First Underwater Restaurant

Looking at the picture alone, i guess i am so curious to get there!  This is an amazing idea site to behold. Above is the world's first underwater sea restaurant at the Conrad Maldives Hotel which was built five metres below the surface of the Indian Ocean. Covered with glass though, i can imagine the shivers from customers who would have to dine with distractions of movement from the sea animals (Shark, Shrimps, etc)

Covered with glass, it lets guests enjoy the beauty of the ocean without getting wet. The restaurant is so bright, diners and staff are required to wear sunglasses.

They say having dinner there costs £190(51,000naira) per person and it took over 81 million Naira(£3m  to build).

Bin Laden Sent $3m To Boko Haram – US Intelligence Analyst

The violent sect, Boko Haram and other groups in northern Nigeria received $3m from Osama bin Laden in 2002, according to a report by some United States intelligence analysts. 

Bin Laden was said to have dispatched an aide to Nigeria to hand out the seed money in naira to a wide array of Salafist political organisations that shared al Qaeda’s goal of imposing Islamic rule.

According to  a report in a United States-based newspaper, The Daily Beast, the Al-Qaeda founder helped provide Boko Haram’s seed money.

Boko Haram was founded by Mohammed Yusuf in 2002. Yusuf was killed in police custody in 2009.

The Daily Beast reported on Sunday  that officially, the U.S. intelligence community believed that the sect had only tangential links to al Qaeda’s North African affiliate, and that reports of bin Laden backing the Nigerian outfit were off-base, but many analysts have believed that the ties between Boko Haram and al Qaeda global leadership go much deeper—and are about more than a little seed money.

“There were channels between bin laden and Boko Haram leadership,” one senior U.S. intelligence offical told The Daily Beast, adding that “He gave some strategic direction at times.”

A comprehensive report on Boko Haram published by the International Crisis Group, also confirmed that  Boko Haram’s early leader, Mohammed Yusuf, received some seed money from a disciple of Osama bin Laden named Mohammed Ali in 2002.

The report added that bin Laden got to know Ali in the 1990s when he was based in Sudan, adding that after Ali travelled with bin Laden to Afghanistan, he was provided with $3m in Nigerian currency in 2002 and sent to the north of the country to fund a wide array of Salafist political organisations to help spread al-Qaeda’s ideology.

Ali then became involved in the Nigeria’s Muslim insurgency but was eventually killed.

Chibok: How Teachers Locked Up Our Daughters and Ran Away

Report from ThisDayLive reveals a narration of how the school teachers of Chibok school took to their heels at the sound of the gunshots from the Boko-Haram members, most of them hid in their teachers' quarters in the school premise and worse of all, locked the gate (no way to run) and instructed them not to run!

One of the parents of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls  Sunday introduced a new twist to the saga surrounding the abduction of almost 300 girls from their school in Chibok, Borno State almost a month ago, when he said the students were locked up by their teachers who subsequently scampered for safety and left them at the mercy of the terrorist group, Boko Haram.

Speaking to reporters who were in Chibok Sunday for almost two hours, Watila Simon, the father of one of the girls, Godiya Simon, said though he was out of town when the insurgents laid siege to Chibok, he immediately made a phone call to his daughter, but was told that the school had not yet been attacked.

His daughter was one of the few girls who was fortunate to escape from the notorious Sambisa forest, the enclave of the terrorists. He said: 

“I called my daughter in the school, asking, ‘Godiya where are you?’ She told me she was in the hostel. Then I said but they are attacking the town and they have started burning houses and you are still in the school, and she said yes.

“I asked, ‘Are you together with soldiers?’ She said no, and I asked about the police, and she said they were not with them, but that they were safe in the school.”

He revealed that when he spoke with Godiya, the insurgents were still attacking the town and had not gone to the school.

“She equally told me that all the teachers had already left and there was no elderly person with them,” he said.

Missing School Girls Will Not Be Released Until Boko Haram Prisoners Are Freed - Abubakar Shekau

Arrested members of the Boko-Haram who are in custody might have to be freed because that is the only condition on which the  Boko Haram Leader, Abubakar Shekau is willing to release our abducted girls.

According to the new Boko Haram Video which claims to show missing Nigerian schoolgirls, Shekau said the  Missing schoolgirls will not be released until Boko Haram prisoners are freed.

Boko Haram leader  also stated in the video that the abducted girls have converted to Islam as reported by the AFP.

15 Million Teenage Girls Give Birth Annually After Being Raped - UNICEF

 

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) have reported that over 15 million teenage girls between the ages of 15 and 19 give birth every year as a result of rape and sexual assault. Nigeria is said to be ranked amongst the ten countries with the highest burden of Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) with over 40,000 cases.

UNICEF in a statement yesterday said many of the pregnancies result from non-consensual sex.

According to UNICEF, despite advances in the last 20 years to checkmate such cases, there had been too little progress in preventing adolescent pregnancies, abortions, maternal deaths, sexually-transmitted infections and HIV.

“There are significant gaps in availability, quality and access to comprehensive se*uality education and services for young people, especially in low-income countries.

“Relatively simple and well-known interventions, like midwifery services and gender-based violence prevention and response, can make a huge difference if scaled up and coupled with investments in innovations, especially in the area of contraceptives,” the statement said.

The statement quoted Dr. Geeta Rao Gupta, Deputy Executive Director, UNICEF, as saying, “one in 40 fifteen year-old girls living in sub-Saharan Africa faces the risk of dying during pregnancy and childbirth in her lifetime.”

The world body further noted that maternal mortality has declined, stressing that; 

“in 2013, the global Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) was 210 maternal deaths per 100, 000 live births, down from 380 maternal deaths per 100 000 live births in 1990 (a 45% reduction).

”The global reduction of MMR has accelerated, with a 3.5% annual decline from 2000-2013, as compared with 1.4% between 1990 and 2000.

”However, at current trends, most countries will not achieve the MDG target of a 75% reduction in MMR from 1990 to 2015. An average decline of 5.5% or more every year since 1990 is needed to meet the target on time.”

‘Nyanya Bombing Masterminds Arrested’ – President Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan has revealed that the masterminds of the tragic Nyanya bombings have been arrested by law enforcement officials. The President disclosed this whilst interacting with media men at the end of the World Economic Forum Africa which held in Abuja on Wednesday to Friday. 

Jonathan said that the security officials were interrogating the culprits and would soon have information on their financiers and sponsors.

The President also revealed that his administration had made $10 million available to match grants from international donors to prosecute the efforts to return the missing girls who were abducted from Chibok last month.

The President said his administration had declared a total war on Boko Haram and would not negotiate with them, but rather rout it out of existence in the country. He said;

But I want to advice that the terrorists should also know that they don’t do certain things and get away with it because most of these activities are criminal offenses and they should know that when they are caught, they would pay dearly for it.

Abortion Complication: Four Arrested In Bauchi Over Death Of A Pregnant Lady

A 23-year-old lady from Gudam Sayawa, Bauchi, identified as Blessing Musa Abarshi has been reportedly confirmed dead as a result of complication arising from illegal abortion. While trying to abort her 4 month, 2-week-old pregnancy with the use of an abortion drug; Eprostol 111 through the cervix with the aid of some community health workers, she died and her corpse was abandoned in Guru village in the state.

The Bauchi State Police Command have arrested four people in connection with her death.

According to a press statement signed by the Bauchi state police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Haruna Mohammed and made available to newsmen yesterday in Bauchi, the police received a report that a female corpse was dumped along Guru village along old Jos road, Bauchi by an unknown person;
 “The scene was visited by detectives led by Dpo, GRA division. The victim was later identified by her father as Blessing Musa Abarshi, 23 yrs and from Gudum Sayawa, Bauchi. Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim died as a result of complication arising from illegal abortion.
 
“The names of the four suspects that were arrested are 21 years Iliya Markus of Railway Quarters; 22-year-old Kefas Adamu of the School of Agric Quarters, Yelwa; Ahmed D. Ahmed and Abdulrashid Bibi, who are community health workers at Comprehensive Health Centre, Tashan Babiye, the statement read in part.

The statement added that the last two suspects who are community health workers admitted to administering Eprostol 111 through the cervix of the deceased to abort a 4 months, 2-week-old pregnancy at N10,000.

Chris Brown Sentenced To 131 More Days In Jail Over Rihanna Parole Violation

TMZ reports:

Chris Brown has just been sentenced to spend another 4-plus months in jail for violating his probation in the Rihanna case but the reality is, he could be released by week’s end.

Brown was in court Friday afternoon where he admitted he violated his probation by getting into a fight with a dude in Washington D.C.

That’s all the judge needed to hear.  He sentenced Chris to 1 year in jail.  However, Chris got credit for 116 days he spent in rehab, and another 59 days behind bars.  That leaves 131 days in the pokey.

But we’re told the L.A. County Sheriff’s Dept has been releasing inmates sentenced to 1 year after 240 days.  And here’s the thing.  Chris gets credit for 2 days for every 1 he served behind bars, so when you add it up, he has credit for 234 days — 6 days shy.  So he could be released in days.

The judge could have gone a lot harder — 4 years in prison.  But Chris got a break because the judge took into account he was recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder, which could account for some of the violence.

The judge also ordered Chris to attend therapy sessions with a shrink 2 times a week.   And he must submit to random drug testing 3 times a week.

Chris is not out of the legal wood, his D.C. assault trial is set to start in the following months.

This is a sad occurrence for a couple who should be celebrating their wedding anniversary in two-weeks.
