Former Lagos Governor, Michael Otedola Is dead

A former Governor of Lagos State and father of oil magnate, Femi Otedola, Sir Michael Otedola is dead. 

Sir Michael Otedola who was the Governor of Lagos state from January 1992 to November 1993 was born on July 16, 1926 into a Muslim family at Odoragunsin, Epe Local Government Area of Lagos state.

News of his death comes barely 24 hours after the nation lost legal icon and jurist, Justice Chukwudifu Oputa.

Kim K & Kanye are officially married!

Kim Kardashian and Kanye Weat whose luxury wedding is scheduled for May 24, 2014 in Paris, France, have reportedly made their marriage official as they obtained a confidential marriage license in California few days ago.

The “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” starlet and her “Bound 2” rapper beau had the said license solemnized by a judge, effectively making them husband and wife. According to a Hollywood Life source.

Police apprehend 4 armed robbers whilst raping victim in Ikeja

While Ogbonna and her three (3) female friends were walking on Airport road on their way to the office at 6am, unknown to them, four armed robbers namely; Tochuckwu Ilom (21), Confidence Oziegbe (20), Simon Peter (25) and Nnemeka Ugochukwu (26) were trialling them. 

The four ladies who tried to run off from the robbers took to their heels but unfortunately for one of them named Ogbonna, the robbers caught and attacked her, took away her Samsung Galaxy phone and some money and still took turns to rape her under a bridge in Ikeja. *Sad Sad Sad*

 

Her friends who were on the run flagged down a police vehicle they saw whilst escaping and the police were able to trace the suspects to their temporary hideout.

They were arraigned before a Magistrate court in Ebute Metta on four counts of armed robbery and rape. The charges partly read;

“That you, Tochuckwu Ilom, Confidence Oziegbe, Simon Peter, and Nnemeka Ugochukwu and others at large, on April 11, 2014 at about 6am at Apakun area, under the bridge, along Airport Road, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit; armed robbery and rape. 

“That you, while armed with a gun and other offensive weapons, did rob one Ogbonna, of her Samsung Galaxy handset valued 40,000 and cash sum of N2,200 total valued N62,000.

“That you and others at large did unlawfully have sexual intercourse with Ogbonna, without her consent.”

These robbers who are within the ages of 20 - 26 and should still need parental guidance are out there robbing and raping innocent people. Please what should a 20-year-old boy be doing at this age? Certainly not robbery and rape na! Haba!!

52-year-old Mother Sold her Son’s Baby For N350,000

A 52-year-old woman in Ezinihitte Mbaise Lo­cal Government Area, Imo State, Mrs. Tina Iwuji has landed herself in the police net of the Imo State Police Command for allegedly selling off her son's girlfriend's baby girl of two weeks for the sum of N350,000.

It all began when Iwuji’s son, Emeka, who resides in Lagos sent his pregnant girlfriend, Esther Godwin, a native of Ndoki, Delta State to Mbaise to stay with his mum till after her delivery.  As planned, both Emeka and Esther never disclosed to the woman that her son was responsible for the pregnancy.

The baby who was sold to one Mrs. Bernadine Abara, who claimed to be in need of a girl to complement her three sons was born on the 11th of April 2014 at Hope Clinic and Maternity, Mbaise. After the delivery of the baby, Tina Iwuji's son, Emeka allegedly called his mother on the phone and instructed that she should ar­range for the sale of the baby and the money realized be giv­en to Esther to enable her to continue with her education in Lagos State.

65-Year-Old Man Impregnates Teenage Daughter

A 65-year-old elder of a pentecostal church in Imo State who has confessed to sleeping with his 17-year-old daughter over 5times is expecting a child from his daughter whom he got pregnant. This expected child will be his 12th child and also his grandchild as he already has 11children including  the pregnant teen whom he begot from his two late wives.

The five-month-old pregnant girl who is a JSS student at St Michael’s Secondary School, Orsu-Obodo said her father tore her clothes and forced himself on her, threatening to deal with her if she told anyone. She further added that when she noticed her period stopped, she reported to the father and he said they would sell the baby. A planned move she said she kicked against.

Some angry youths in the community; Kalabari Beach in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State were said to have dragged him from his house and kept beating him until a lawyer passing by prevailed.

What is your name?

Sawok: My name is Amina Sawok.

Walse: My name is Thabita Walse.

Can you describe the attack on your school?

Sawok: We were in the hostel. One of the men dressed in military camouflage asked us where our dining hall was. From our hostels, they took us to the dining hall and from there, we were moved into the waiting vehicles and they headed towards Damboa town. The incident happened around 11pm.

Walse: It is a long story. They came to our school and deceived us into believing they were soldiers. They were dressed in military uniform and made us believe they were about rescuing us only for us to later find out that they were insurgents. When we discovered, it was already too late and there was little we could do.

Justice Chukwudifu Oputa Dies At 96

Chairman of the Oputa Panel and Former Judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Chukwudifu Oputa who was endearingly called the Socrates of the Supreme Court has passed on. He died yesterday, May 4, 2014 at about 3:30pm at his Abuja home shortly after he was discharged from the hospital.

Justice Oputa who also is the father of an eccentric entertainer, Charly boy had struggled with failing health for several months, culminating in a stroke he suffered in February 2014.

He is survived by a wife, Mrs. C. Oputa, and several children and grandchildren.

Abducted Chibok Girls Are 276 And Not 234

Today marks the 17day since our girls got abducted. Our prayer has been for them to be released in safety; Now the question is how many girls were abducted? How many escaped? and how many are we searching for?  

Well, at a joint press briefing which held in Maiduguri last night, the Borno State Police Command and the Department of State Service, DSS, office in the state released new figures of the missing schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram insurgents, saying 276 students and not 234 were initially taken away.

The state Police Commissioner, Lawal Tanko and the Director of DSS, Ahmed Abdullahi disclosed  this report which contradicts the earlier claims by parents of the affected girls, who said 234 of their daughters were kidnapped when the insurgents attacked the school. The CP added that 530 students from Chibok and other neighbouring towns sat for the final examinations, and that 276 were abducted, while 53 others escaped.

Happily, the former British Prime Minister, Mr. Gordon Brown, has called for international military assistance, such as air support, to be offered to the Nigerian government in the hunt for the abducted girls.

It was gathered that four different battalions comprising of all formations of the Army, including those from Signals Corps, Armoured Corps, Ordinance Corps, Intelligence Corps, Infantry Corps, Artillery Corps, Military Police Corps and the Medical Corps have been mobilised  to storm Sambisa forest and have been positioned around all the access routes into the notorious forest (North, South, East and West of the forest) so that when the troops move in from all the angles, there will be no escape route for the terrorists.

Abandoned Baby Found Dead In The Gutter

 Journalist, Jennifer Ehidiamen witnessed the incident this morning in Lagos. According to her: 

"I saw a crowd gathering around a heap by the gutter in Fadeyi area of Lagos.My curious self crossed to the other side and was about to ask, “wetin dey happen” when I saw it. A lifeless newborn (baby) wrapped in a blanket. One of the cleaners found the baby in the gutter. Lagos lookers were cursing the person responsible for dumping the baby. Some said they suspect the person lives around the corner. So they raved and cursed.

Doctors' Strike Is responsible For Amaka's Igwe's death

Amaka Igwe's husband, Charles Igwe while receiving delegates from the national executive of the National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP) who paid him a condolence visit days ago, narrates how Amaka Igwe died. He said:

 “We were in Enugu preparing for her new soap, and Amaka was taking some of the people through acting when she had an asthma attack. After using inhaler without success, she was taken to a nearby hospital, but we were told that the doctor was not around.


"We then went to the teaching hospital in Enugu, where we were again told that the Doctors were on strike. It was while we were taking her to another hospital that she died.”

Jonathan Calls Emergency Security Meeting As A Result Of The Second Nyanya Blast

 

Further to yesterday's bomb blast, President Jonathan has called an emergency National Security Council meeting in Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.

According to tweets from Rene Omokiri, President's Adviser on Media and Publicity, the Nigerian Flag is currently being hoisted at the bomb blast scene in Nyanya to signify that the hearts of Nigerians are with the departed souls.

Report from Vanguard reveals the narration of how the second Nyanya blast occurred:

General, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Sanni Sidi disclosed that yesterday’s bomb blast happened when a parked car with explosives exploded.

Speaking with Journalists at Asokoro General Hospital, Abuja, Sidi who noted that the gravity of the blast was not as intensive as the previous one, stressed that yesterday’s blast happened fifty
metres away from the last one, but the same Nyanya, outskirts of Abuja.

Senator Mohammed arrived Asokoro Hospital at 10. 55 pm in company of the FCTA permanent Secretary, John Chukwu, Secretary, Social Development, Mrs Blessing Onuh; Health Secretary, Ademola Onakomaiya, other FCT executive members.

May Day Blast: Nine Confirmed Dead, 11 Injured

Following the report of the May Day blast which occurred along the Nyanya-Maraba  road at about 8:22pm yesterday, the National Emergency Management Agency has confirmed that 9 persons were killed leaving 11 others unconsciously injured.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force is giving a report of 19 persons killed as against the 9 reported by NEMA!!

However, the lifeless bodies have been deposited in the mortuary while the injured victims are said to be receiving medical treatment in different hospitals in Abuja. Relatively, blood is currently needed at the Asokoro General Hospital, Abuja in an effort to save survivals who suffered severe injuries in the blast.

As a result of this second Nyanya blast which occurred barely three weeks after the Nyanya blast of April 14, 2014, the security operatives are said to have permanently closed down the Nyanya highway and created a diversion through Karu bridge leading to the other end of Nyanya towards Maraba area.

Woman Vomits Blood And Dies After Drinking Power Water Given To Her By Her Pastor

 

A pastor in Ajegunle area of Mpape who is known to cure many diseases with his power water (Holy water) has allegedly killed a young woman with the said power water. This sad incident which occurred on Monday morning was narrated by a resident said that the deceased went with her friend to get the power water in the pastor’s house in the morning and that the pastor gave the water to the two friends. He said:

“The surviving lady told us that the pastor is known to be able to cure many diseases with his power water, so that morning the deceased went to the other girl’s house so that they can go to  the pastor’s house to get the power water,” 

 

He further narrated that the other girl who went with the deceased to the pastor's house said that when they got to the pastor’s house, they knocked and the pastor came out with the power water, she drank as the pastor commanded, then she handed the remaining water to the deceased, who also drank. He said:
“As soon as she drank, her eyes started bulging; she started vomiting blood and died instantly,’’
