Court Remands Estate Agent For Sexually Abusing A 13 Year Old Girl Who Happens To Be His Friend's Daughter

An Abule Egba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 ordered one Taiwo Olubunmi, 45,  to be remanded in prison custody until March 26 pending his conviction for sexually abusing an under-aged girl. 

The Magistrate, Mr Tajudeen Elias, gave the order after Olubunmi, an estate agent, pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting his friend’s under-aged daughter. 

Elias adjourned the case to March 26 for sentencing. 

Olubunmi, who lives at 7, Fagbemi St., Meiran, was arraigned on a four-count charge bordering on child defilement and sexual assault.

Man Nabbed In Rivers State With Explosives Linked To Yobe

The Rivers State Police Command on Monday arrested a 30 year-old man a large quantity of explosives, including detonators and a cordless wire. 

The suspect, who was identified as Ibrahim Aliyu was apprehended in Ndele Town in Emohua Local Government Area of the state at about 2.30pm.

 

State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin, told newsmen in Port Harcourt that Aliyu confessed to be a member of a kidnap syndicate based in Ogbogoro Town in Rivers State.

Ekiti commissioner arrested for beating up NYSC member

                               
In somewhat bizarre, but unfortunately not-so-surprising news, Ekiti police have questioned the state’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Kayode Olaosebikan, over the beating of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member at a registration unit in Otun Ekiti, Moba local government.

Olaosebikan, who interestingly, doubles as the Chairman of the NYSC board in the state, was seen at the Criminal Investigation Department of the police, making his statement.

The story goes that Olaosebikan beat up a youth corps member, Mr. Thompson Enobong, with NYSC number EK/13c/1859, assisting the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the just concluded registration. Enobong was subsequently admitted at the Federal Medical Centre, Ido-Ekiti, where he is said to be receiving treatment.

Auto Crash Claims 15 Lives In Edo

In a ghastly motor accident which occurred at about 6:12 pm on Sunday along the Benin/Lagos expressway claimed at least 15 lives as reported by Thisday.

The said accident occurred around Igbogune town in Edo state, close to Okada town, involved a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number WWR 625 XA Delta and a trailer with registration number LSR 649XK, Lagos .

All the passengers on the bus belonging to a popular transport company, GOD IS GOOD, died on the spot,

Pastor drives self to hospital, shouts halleluyah and dies

As reported by DailyPost,  a 55-year-old cleric, simply identified as, Timothy Elugbemi,reportedly drove himself to a hospital in Sango Ota, Ogun State, shouted ‘hallelujah’ and passed on.

It was gathered that the late cleric was attended to by Dr. Ayo Adeoye, proprietor of Lolade Clinic and Maternity Home, where he checked in for medical attention before he died.

Confirming the incident, Dr. Adeoye said the clergyman complained of feeling unwell and was subsequently attended to.

He said that after being confirmed medically fit, the pastor exchanged pleasantries with the nurses at the reception, but suddenly started saying “halleluyah.”

Adeoye said: “I cannot believe this. This was a man who drove himself into the hospital and was attended to and equally found fit.
“He suddenly started saying ‘halleluyah,’ ‘halleluyah’ and before we knew it he lost consciousness and died. I have never witnessed this type of incidence since I started my medical practice,” he said.

How Tunde Was Shot Dead By Policemen In Malaysia

A Nigerian student studying in Malaysia was allegedly shot and killed by Malaysian police.

His friends in Malaysia report that Adelabu Tunde, from Ekiti state, was shot by the police on his way back from school on Thursday, March 6, 2014.

An eyewitness said: “Police was raiding in another apartment, Tunde and his friends come back from school then the police car followed them. Tunde ran and got shot in head by a police man. Please share the truth. He was not fighting, he was shot by police that came for extra pocket money.! And the police left the scene as soon as he was shot.”

Tunde was a student of Lagenda University, Nilai, Malaysia.

The friends of the late Tunde called on the Federal Government to make sure that justice is prevailed and his murderers are brought to book.

19-Year-Old Nigerian Student Stabbed To Death In Ghana

A 19-year-old Nigerian student at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, Godwin Chukwudi Ayogu has been stabbed to death penultimate weekend by yet to be apprehended attackers.

Police authorities in Ghana suspect that the murder is connected to the deceased’s Ghanaian room-mate, Abotsi Gweus, a.k.a Enay and are working round the clock to apprehend the killers.

Godwin’s father, Mr Fred Ayogu, a Lagos-based businessman, said he had returned to school for the second semester in September last year with $5,000 meant for his tuition and sundry fees. However, the money was allegedly collected from him for “safe keeping” by Gweus, a 400-level Music student. But, up until the night of his murder, Godwin had not paid his school fees because he could not recover the money.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will quiz the former governor of Kwara State, Senator Bukola Saraki, on March 17, 2014, Monday.

According to SaharaReporters, the former governor is expected to answer questions bordering on how he managed the state’s bonds during his eight-year tenure as the governor of the state.

The last time the anti-graft agency had quizzed Senator Saraki, was over the various roles he played as executive director in the defunct Societe Generale Bank, which merged into the Heritage Bank.

Dr Saraki, whose armed security detail was drastically reduced over the weekend, has claimed that the renewed clampdown on him regarding his past corrupt deeds, was the result of his recent participation in the breakaway faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Cattle Rustlers Attack Katsina Communities, 103 Feared killed

Scores of gunmen, believed to be cattle rustlers, have attacked villages in Katsina State killing about 103 people. Residents said about 100 armed men on motorcycles on Tuesday and Wednesday evening invaded Kurar Mota, Marabar Maigora, Sabon Layin Galadima, Unguwar Doka, and Maigora, all in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.

A witness who narrowly escaped and later returned to his village said on Thursday morning that he attended the burial of 27 people in his hometown, Maigora. He said he later attended the burial of another 21 people at Sabon Layin Galadima; while 40 people were killed at Marabar Maigora; 7 in Kurar Mota and 8 in Unguwar Doka.

Housewife Fakes Kidnap To Obtain Money From Her Husband

A housewife, Mrs Grace Obi has been fingered by the Delta State Police Command for orchestrating her own kidnap in order to fleece money from her husband.

The incident happened in Warri on the 7th of March, when the husband went to report the kidnap of his wife at the Warri Area Command.

ACP Husseini Rabiu, the Area Commander told the husband to play along with the kidnappers after they requested N1.5 million.

The ransom was given to close confidants of the victims Mr Ogonna Onu and Mr Gift Erah to deliver to the hoodlums and secure the release of his wife.

Wazobia FM presenter, Akas Baba, shot and kidnapped

There are reports that a popular presenter for Wazobia FM has been kidnapped in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

The kidnap of the presenter who is known on air as Akas Babas has been confirmed by his wife, Candy Akatakpo. She stated that her husband was attacked at about 2am today at his Rumuekini residence in Port Harcourt in the presence of his family.

According to her, Akas Baba, whose real name is Anthony Akatakpo was first shot on his leg before being taken away by his abductors in a Mitsubishi Endeavor SUV.

Okonjo-Iweala Says N24b Police Pension Fund Is Not Missing; It Is With The Government

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on Wednesday stated that contrary to the widely reported story, N24 billion of police pension fund money was not missing. 

The clarification became necessary following the testimony by the director-general of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Department (PTAD), Nellie Mayshak, that she had no evidence of how N24b police pension fund was spent.

In a statement issued by Mr Paul Nwabuikwu, her Special Adviser on Media, in Abuja, Okonjo-Iweala said reports that N24 billion was missing from the fund were false.

“Contrary to media reports, the sum of N24 billion is not missing from the Police Pension Fund,’ the statement stated.

TRAGIC: One-Year-Old Girl, Four Others Buried Alive At Illegal Gold Mining Site

A One-year-old girl, four others were buried alive in collapse of an illegal gold mining pit in central Ghana.

According to an Accra-based radio station, the tragedy happened in the Amansie Central district on March 11, 2014, Tuesday. 

A group of people were in the pit digging for gold. A baby girl was near her parents in the pit at the time of the accident.  

According to the local police, seven other illegal gold miners escaped the scene of collapse.

The five bodies were taken to a mortuary of a nearby hospital. 

It would be noted that many people across Africa buried alive in pits every year, as thousands of illegal miners continue to dig for gold and diamonds.

Nigeria Protests To South Africa Over Police Brutality On Nigerian Which Was Caught On Camera

The Trent have reported that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has described the South African police brutality on a Nigerian which was caught on camera as “a horror and particularly disturbing’’.

This is contained in a statement signed and issued on Thursday, March 13, 2014 by the ministry’s spokesman, Mr Ogbole Ode.

It stated that the Nigeria High Commission in Pretoria was investigating the circumstances of the attack on Mr Clement Emekeneh.

It said that the mission sent a strong-worded note to the Department of Foreign Affairs of South Africa protesting the brutal attack, and demanded that perpetrators be brought to justice.

Woman Stabs Sister To Death Over Inheritance In Ondo

A 62 year-old woman, Yemi Olasehinde,of Okedasa area of Ondo Town was allegedly stabbed to death by her younger sister, Iyanu Olasehinde.

The incident reportedly happened on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 after a heated argument between the two women over their late father’s inheritance.

It was learnt that the deceased was deported from the United States of America[USA] some years ago.

The duo were said to have engaged each other in a hot argument over the inheritance of their late father, before the suspect, a worker in one of the local government Councils in Ondo State ,allegedly used a knife to stab her elder sister.

Elumelu to redeem $500,000 pledge to Super Eagles

The former CEO of United Bank for Africa (UBA), Tony Elumelu, has expressed his readiness to redeem hs promise of $500,000 to the Super Eagles, which he made after they emerged African champions last year.

Just like Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote, Elumelu stated that he has not remitted the money since last year, because the Nigeria Football Federation have not been in touch.
“Months ago, a number of Nigerian citizens pledged to reward the sportsmanship and success of the Super Eagles at the Nations Cup. I was one of those who pledged – and many of us have waited expectantly for the organisers to approach us directly and redeem what has been promised to the team,” Elumelu, speaking through his aide.

“I am a champion of excellence and of youth initiatives, and I don’t make promises I don’t intend to keep. My promise to donate $500,000 to the players and coaches of the Super Eagles still stands.” 

The banking magnate went on to ask the NFF to provide him with the necessary account details, so he could wire the amount.

Ogun State Man Arrested With 18 Human Heads

A 38-year-old man, Adelani Ayomide was caught and arrested by some policemen of Ado-Odo Division, Ogun State for allegedly possessing a bag which contained 18 human heads.

In a statement issued Thursday, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, said policemen attached to the Ado-Odo Division of the state command, arrested one Adelani Ayomide, 38, with the bag containing the human skulls. 

According to the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the suspect, was caught in the early hours of Thursday, would be transferred the command’s Department of Investigation for a “discrete investigation.” .
